Memorial Day Weekend

This is a special weekend as we remember and recognize those who have given so much for those of us that enjoy living in this great country. Please take a moment to reflect upon how fortunate we are!

Volunteer Luncheon

Due to the severe weather expected mid-day, we will be moving the volunteer appreciation luncheon inside today. Please go to the Town Hall Public Assembly if you registered to attend the event. If you are a board member or town community volunteer that did not sign up, we have space available. For those volunteers who could not attend today, we appreciate your time and dedication to serving the community.

Hurricane Season

Remember that hurricane season officially begins next week. It is important to have your hurricane plans in place and your decals in the event we have an evacuation. At the recent hurricane conference staff and I attended, the representative from the National Weather Service kept reiterating that it is the impacts and not the category (Saffir-Simpson Scale) that should be the focus. Each storm brings impacts that could affect property owners in different capacities and decisions regarding preparation should be based on impacts, not wind speed.

Concerts

Concerts begin this Sunday and will run through Labor Day Sunday. Concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. and this week we have Carolina Kool taking the stage at the pavilion under the bridge. I look forward to seeing each of you there with your dancing shoes!

Start of Season

The island’s appearance is wonderful. Homes and yards are looking great as we welcome the summer season and our island visitors. Be sure your house numbers are properly displayed. Remember that oceanfront homes are required to have numbers on the street side and the ocean side of the house. When emergencies occur, responders must readily see the house numbers.

Resurfacing and painting of NC 130 beginning in Shallotte for five miles to the Mt. Pisgah Road intersection is almost complete. However, be prepared for possible delays.

The Holden Beach Chapel begins its 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. service this Sunday. All worshipers are welcome!
