Open Letter from Officer Frank Dilworth

Town Hall News

Officer Frank Dilworth asked that I pass along the following message:

Holden Beach Family,

I wanted to take a minute and sincerely thank all of you for the overwhelming support my family has received. Nothing can take away the pain, but it certainly made it a little easier to deal with as the vast support greatly helped divert the constant thinking of why and looking for answers we know are not there. We continue to this day to receive cards from folks all over whom live, have lived or own property on the island and surrounding area, some who I do not even know by name.

I have lived here since first grade and I always had this sense of something that drew me to and kept me in this community. I finally realized that it had nothing to do with the area, but was totally about the great people associated with the Holden Beach area. I came to realize through this horrible tragedy that I am part of the largest family in the world and I sincerely cherish it.

I would love to be able to take the time to personally thank everyone, but I am not sure I would ever have enough time in my life if I started right now. I can only hope that this message reaches everyone. Thank you all so very much for your support.

Please take the time each day to love your entire family and encourage them to slow down with life a little and please buckle up, if not for themselves, for all the others around them.

God bless everyone,
Frank Dilworth

Josh was born with sand between his feet and salt air in his lungs. As a kid, you could have found him riding his bike to old Jeff's Grocery for a few candy treats or merrily working the checkout counter at Beach Mart.
